Tomorrow, on Saturday, May 17th, thousands of dogs will feel like the kings and queens, princes and princesses, dukes and duchesses of Austin as they roam three miles of primo downtown locale. That's right folks, it's the annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk, supporting Texas' hearing and service dogs! The hope is to break the Guinness World Record for "Largest Dog Walk", the current record being 10,272 dogs! It's Texas...I'm sure we can do it! Try and picture all those dogs...all sorts of breeds, sizes, shapes, colors, demeanors...all together on the streets of Austin. It's a riot!
Molly and I participated for the first time last year and had a blast! Every dog gets a gold medal so all of them are "winners"; nevertheless, my puppy wanted to make it a competition (trying to prove herself queen) and she pulled me the entire way, never letting up and barking at me if I stopped for water. Wanting to be first, she weaved and wove through thousands of dogs, trying to pass up as many as she could to get to the finish line before the rest of 'em. That little girl tried with all her might to be first. This year, for her sake, I am going to get as close to the starting line as I can so she can take off when the whistle blows! Am I a good puppy mommy or what? <grin> And this year, Matt is participating with me, and all I gotta say is, he better keep up the pace as he has no idea what he's in for!
It's not too late to register at the event tomorrow morning if you're interested in participating with your dog. Click here for more information. Come back 'round to see pictures of our competitive Labrador and find out if Matt and I managed to not embarrass her too badly.
