Remembering Six Years Ago

It's amazing how quickly six years pass by.  While I do not do anything to formally observe the anniversary of September 11, 2001, I ponder it throughout the day.  The person I think of the most is Lisa Beamer, wife of Todd Beamer.  Todd was among those who died on United flight #93 while attempting to regain control of the flight from the hijackers.  Maybe it's because Matt and I share the same alma matter (Wheaton College) as the Beamers, and because of that, she's the closest connection I have to the events of 9/11.

About a year and a half after 9/11, I read Lisa's book entitled Let's Roll, in which she shares about her childhood, courtship with Todd, the events leading up to 9/11, and her faith in Jesus in relation to the events before and after 9/11.  She is now a single mother of three children.

I often wonder what she is up to, how she is doing.  In the "google world" we now live in, I tried searching for her name in hopes of finding any recent information, yet unsuccessfully.  The one interesting thing I discovered is that Todd Beamer is now listed in Wikipedia (click here to see his entry). It said that his phrase, "Let's Roll", used in his personal life with his family, as well as on United flight #93, has become even a battle cry for troops in Afghanistan searching for Al-Qaeda.

I hope Lisa is doing well.  I hope she has an assurance of the Lord's protection over her and His provision for her.  I hope she has joy in her heart.  I hope that even on this day, a day of remembrance, that she continues to see the amazing impact of Todd's courage.
