Marathon Training--Any Recommendations?
Monday, January 28, 2008
One of the goals I have this year is to run at least a 10k and hopefully, a 1/2 marathon. Unfortunately, what I'm discovering is that most of the running events are held in the spring, which gives me very little time to train. Julie, my sister-in-law, and I want to pick a race to run together and we're thinking about the 1/2 marathon in Nashville on April 26th. Right now, I'm at a pathetic 15 minute mile (mostly walking) as I'm really out of shape. The first race I want to run is the Statesman Capitol 10k in Austin on March 30th. I've browsed some websites for training resources, but would really like any recommendations from you all! Any good websites? Training resources? Tips? Bring it on; I need all the help I can get!
[this is good] Wow! So exciting! It really is fun to work towards a goal and strive for something challenging together and really pushing yourself to do something you never thought you would do. It'll be a great experience to do together. I'm trying to think of what helped me when I ran the Chicago marathon....make sure you have good tennis shoes... double up on socks when you run to prevent blisters, eat lots of fruits, vegetables and protein...if you write or buy your name, nick name, number, whatever on the front of your shirt you'll probably get people on the sidelines to cheer for you...Go Meg! Go number 4! Go Runner Girl! (was on my shirt) Go Texas! if you have a Texas shirt..Go Nike! It can be kinda fun and give you a boost when you're running. Pace yourself, be aware of your body and make sure it's not too hard on your knees...it's ok to train on an olymptical or tread mill if you need too..you'll build stamina and strength to prepare you for your race without injuring your body to get there. Good luck girl! I'll be cheering for you! You can do it!
