Little Black Boot
Thursday, March 27, 2008
Well, I just got an awful early birthday present: a little black boot from the podiatrist. I am officially and very sadly not running the Capitol 10k this weekend, and unfortunately ended up taking home this ugly thing from the doctor's office that I have to wear all day, every day for 3 weeks. I am already trying to make excuses for not wearing it this Saturday
Since the swelling and throbbing didn't go down after 10 days, I thought I better make an appointment with the doctor. Fortunately, the Austin Regional Clinic of Round Rock actually has a podiatrist in their clinic and I was able to get in 20 minutes after I called! Apparently I have tendinitis, which some of you are familiar with. Fortunately, all of my x-rays looked good, but the doctor didn't like the sight of the inflammation, so he presented me with the boot and gave me a firm, "No" when I asked if I could run this weekend.
I even went to a local running store yesterday to see what they could offer me in case I've been slightly rolling my ankle while running. I left with a $120 pair of spiffy and very comfortable running shoes that I am now going to return because it did not meet the podiatrist's running shoe standard. Go figure.
So I will make a good cheerleader, albeit hobbling around in my boot, for Matt and our friends, Aron and Janna, who are also running the 10k. Thanks to Julie and my friend, Jill, I already had my iPod updated with their suggestions for music, and before this all happened was able to run a few days with my new play list. I especially love the versions of "Amazing Grace" that I bought for the race; I thought it was a great idea of Julie's! I am pretty bummed about this, and don't want to let anyone down. But I still aim to keep running and register for a half marathon in November. Thanks for all of your encouragement with this new adventure of running!
If you could give my boot a nickname, what would it be?

First to answer your question here--"Darth" Now to answer your probing question on Beth's blog. Someone else might do this more justice, but here are my thoughts. God is the God of zillions of second chances. We all stumble, but you are free. God is eternal so He lives in the present? Are you free right now this moment? Then you are free indeed. First, let God take you an hour with Him, then a day, then a few days, and before you know it, you have a month of freedom. And if you start over, God is still the "I AM" not the "I WAS" He is there in that moment to help you.
My husband and daughter are running in the Capitol Run right now, but I didn't get back in town to join them. We're from Houston. You take care, and know you are most blessed in each moment of freedom. I
