At thirty years of age, there are still moments when I need peace to replace my anxiousness. Courage to replace fear. Joy to replace sorrow. Truth to replace lies. There always will be until I see Jesus face to face. Until then, there is something that comes to my mind in those moments that brings me the peace, the courage, the joy, and Truth I need: a song. It’s a melody that my Momma has sung to me since I was a baby. Here are the words to Alleluia, Alleluia Give Thanks to the Risen Lord:
Give thanks to the risen Lord
Alleluia, alleluia, give praise to His name
Jesus is Lord of all the earth
He is the King of creation
Spread the good news o'er all the earth
Jesus has died and has risen
We have been crucified with Christ
Now we shall live forever
God has proclaimed the just reward
Life for all men, alleluia!
Come let us praise the living God
Joyfully sing to our Savior
It has been one of the most impressionable songs in my life. I sing it to myself. Sometimes I need my hubby to sing it to me when I’m having trouble falling asleep. And now, I sing it to Brennan. When he seems inconsolable, when he falls asleep, when he’s getting his shots, or when we made his first trip to the hospital. It brings peace to not only his spirit, but mine as well. It has stuck with me through all sorts of occasions, to help me turn my eyes toward Jesus. The main point being: it is Truth that has stuck.
As my little boy grows, what will stick with him? What will come to his mind when he needs peace, courage, joy and Truth? It may or may not be Alleluia, Alleluia, Give Thanks to the Risen Lord. Or, knowing how active he’s becoming, maybe it’ll be something more upbeat like David Crowder’s “Here is Our King”. What melody will he carry throughout the seasons of his life to help him remember that he has a Maker who carries all of his burdens and shares in his joys? Will there be a song that tells the tale of his journey with God? I’ll admit, how special it would be if it’s a song that I sang consistently to him throughout his childhood; that would be totally cool! But whatever it is, may it be something that helps him set his mind on heavenly things, such as peace, courage, joy, and Truth.
